How are solar pv panels fitted to the roof?

A popular question asked, is how do the solar panels fix to my roof. The following photographs show the method of fixing solar panels to a roof.

Step 1

The tiles are removed to expose the roof supports. Then solar roof hook brackets are fixed to the supports and secured by exterior rated wood screws.

Step 2

Once the roof brackets are in place the tiles can be refitted. This then leaves the lower part of the brackets showing at the bottom of the tile.

Step 3

The solar pv cables are installed on to the roof. The cable entry through the tile is glanded and lead flashed to stop any water penetration into the roof into the roof.

Step 4

Now the solar pv support rails are fitted into position. The solar pv panels will mount onto these rails.

Step 5

All panels are secured to the support rails using special fasteners which attach to the support rails and hold the solar pv panels in place once tightened.
